Truly Devious Series Books 1-5

Book 7/50

Truly Devious by Maureen Johnson

Rating: ★★★★☆

I absolutely loved the time shift and how I was able to see both the events of the 1930's and current times. The flashbacks really made the current story much more engaging, you wanted to know how Stevie was going to discover the murder based on the clues she was given. It ends on a cliff hanger so readers be warned.

Book 8/50

The Vanishing Stairs by Maureen Johnson

Rating: ★★★★☆

Johnson was able to tug at your heartstrings and put you in the place of both the murderer and victim. You finally got to see the heart of the Ellingham case and understand the motives behind the kidnappings. The Truly Devious poem author reveal was shocking to say the least!

Book 9/50

The Hand on the Wall by Maureen Johnson

Rating: ★★★★★

I'll start by saying that David is an idiot. Besides that, I loved how this one wrapped up the whole Ellingham murder case. However on reflection, I realized that I liked the flashbacks more than the current time. It would have been more engaging to read this story just set in the 1930's without the modern take. Stevie might be getting on my nerves a bit.

Book 10/50

The Box in the Woods by Maureen Johnson

Rating: ★★★★☆

This was the first instance that Stevie solved the muder within one book. Some flashbacks were included but not as many as in the Truly Devious case. I can truly say that the ending was a complete surprise and that there was no way for us as readers to come to that conclusion since multiple pieces of vital info were kept from us.

Book 11/50

Nine Liars by Maureen Johnson

Rating: ★★★☆☆

This was my least favorite one so far. I didn't really care about any of the new characters and David is really starting to get on my nerves. It focused way too much on teenage problems and I couldn't get into the story. Stevie just made so many stupid decisions that even though it ended with a cliffhanger I'm not going to read the next book when it is published.
